Thuringia: boom for solar systems expected on the balcony in Thuringia

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's state energy agency (Thega) is expecting a boom in so-called balcony photovoltaic systems this year. They can also supply solar power for rental apartments. The agency announced on Thursday in Erfurt that interest in the systems had already increased significantly last year. A total of 1,216 of the small solar systems were installed - in 2021 there were 229, in 2020 only 24.

"The innovations in the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) such as tax breaks and higher feed-in tariffs continue to drive the solar boom," explained Thega project manager Daniel Krieg. However, the unbroken demand for roof and balcony systems is currently encountering problems with the supply of technology and tradesman services.

According to Thega, more wind turbines and solar systems were connected to the grid last year than in 2021. The number of electric cars and charging stations has also increased significantly.

In 2022, a total of 7,352 new solar systems went into operation in Bavaria. This means that around 46,500 systems are now supplying solar power - the installed capacity has increased to 2152 megawatts.

In the case of wind turbines, the agency recorded 23 new systems, and two older systems were shut down. A total of 865 wind turbines were now producing electricity in Thuringia - the output increased by 102 megawatts to 1796 megawatts. In 2021, 14 wind turbines were built and seven were dismantled.

The state government had set the goal that Thuringia should cover its energy needs from its own renewable energies by 2040.
