Thuringia: EUR 25,000 damage after a fire in the Sömmerda district

Riethnordhausen (dpa/th) - A fire in Riethnordhausen (Sömmerda district) caused property damage of 25,000 euros on Sunday afternoon. A police spokesman said on Monday that it is currently assumed that ash disposed of on a composting site could have triggered the fire. When residents noticed the fire, police said it was already threatening to spread to neighboring homes. The flames quickly spread from the burning compost to a carport and an adjoining building. 50 emergency services from the fire brigade were able to prevent further spread. According to the police, no one was injured.
