Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia's head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Stefan Kramer, has warned against comparing climate protests with the terrorist RAF. The entire climate protection movement should not be discredited, he told MDR Aktuell. However, for the last two years, very intensive efforts by the left-wing extremist scene have been observed "to undermine the entire climate debate and, above all, the young people who take to the streets at Fridays for Future, but also the last generation and commit themselves courageously, and to instrumentalize reasons for their goals".
It can be seen more clearly that individual debates have led to a systemic discussion instead of a climate discussion. "And you can see very clearly that the whole thing is partially slipping into left-wing extremism," Kramer told the broadcaster. The President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution appealed to climate activists to take a close look at who they took to the streets and worked with.
