Thuringia: Minister of the Interior Maier: Corona deniers politically clearly right

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to Thuringia's Interior Minister Georg Maier, so-called corona deniers and lateral thinkers should be consistently assigned to the right-wing spectrum. "We have to tighten up the classification of politically organized crime, especially with the Corona deniers," said the SPD politician to the editorial network Germany (RND, Tuesday). The scene is clearly right-wing politically motivated. "It's right-wing extremists who incite them," Maier added.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution is publishing its annual report for 2021 this Tuesday. It lists a category that was newly set up in April last year for the first time. It bears the unwieldy title "Anti-democratic and/or security-endangering delegitimization of the state". In this category, the domestic secret service combines groups and individual actors who cannot be assigned to either left-wing or right-wing extremism, but who have indications that they want to override constitutional principles or impair the functioning of the state.

It's not just about buzzwords like "corona dictatorship", as they were sometimes heard during protests by the so-called lateral thinker scene. Rather, the domestic secret service as a whole looks at people and groups who spread certain conspiracy theories, cast doubt on the democratic state or reject it outright.
