Erfurt (dpa/th) - With the rising fuel prices, the number of fuel thefts in Thuringia has also skyrocketed. In the first three months of this year, it more than doubled compared to the same period last year, according to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) of the German Press Agency.
While 30 cases were still recorded from January to March 2021, there were already 72 in the first quarter of this year. The thieves were almost exclusively targeting diesel, it said.
Information on the stolen diesel quantities and the amount of damage could not be given. The LKA also had no information on whether the diesel was stolen from gas stations, parked trucks or construction sites.
