Thuringia: Ramelow comments on further relief

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The federal and state governments are arguing about financing further relief as a result of the high energy prices. Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) wants to present the Free State's expectations for the meeting of the heads of government in Erfurt today.

The prime ministers will meet on Wednesday, primarily to discuss the third relief package for prices that have risen as a result of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), who is suffering from Corona, wants to take part in the meeting virtually. Ramelow had recently called for more speed in the reorganization of the electricity market and advocated even greater intervention in the energy market.

At the beginning of September, the traffic light coalition promised relief of an estimated 65 billion euros. These include one-off payments for pensioners and students and a price cap for basic electricity requirements. The federal government is also offering money for a follow-up offer of the popular 9-euro ticket for buses and trains in a price range of 49 to 69 euros a month - if the federal states help finance it.
