Erfurt (dpa/th) - The state government is dealing with heat and drought in Thuringia on Tuesday (1 p.m.). Health Minister Heike Werner (Left) and Environment Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens) want to provide information about heat protection and projects after the cabinet meeting. In the past week there had been temperatures in the Free State that were close to long-term record values. In addition, the river levels are low and in many places their water can no longer be used for irrigation.
According to the State Office for the Environment, Mining and Nature Conservation (TLUBN), heat protection in Thuringia has so far mainly been an issue in the larger cities. Because of their valley location, they are more susceptible to heat, especially since they are densely built-up. They heat up more in summer sunshine. Jena in the Saale valley, for example, is also one of the warmest cities in Germany.
