Unusual. Is it possible that there are more sheep in the Southern Alps than Alpines?

The Haut-Alpins no longer make up the majority of their district. And it's the same drama in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: the bipeds are no longer masters of their territory. The Hautes-Alpes has more sheep than people, with over 271,000 sheep and 140,000 inhabitants. The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence suffered the same fate: 193,500 sheep for 164,000 inhabitants.

The Southern Alpines can rest assured that they are not the only mammals to outvote them. Jules Grandin, a cartographer, identified 13 areas that had more cows than people and five in which pigs predominate.
