Incorrect debits: The money should be back at the DKB

Last week, many DKB customers were shocked. Because of technical faults, postings were accidentally debited from the current account again. The money should be back in the account today. However, standing orders, direct debits and transfers should be checked urgently.

At Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB), on November 3rd and 4th, 2022, some customers were incorrectly re-posted from October 2022 due to a technical fault. Transactions made between October 3rd and October 11th were mostly affected. The incorrect double bookings were caused by the bank itself and not by a service provider.

According to the DKB, all double bookings were identified and booked back by noon on Sunday, November 6th. According to the direct bank, the chargebacks can be seen in the current account with the posting days “Friday, November 4, 2022” or “Monday, November 7, 2022” under “Recredit” by today at the latest. If customers affected by the incident have incurred costs, for example due to reminders, DKB will check whether these will be taken over on a case-by-case basis. The contact request in banking with the subject "Double bookings November 2022" should be used for this purpose.

Anyone who has ended up in the overdraft facility due to the incorrect postings will not be charged overdraft interest under any circumstances, because the value date is retrospective to the date of the incorrect posting, as the DKB lets its customers know with an apology.

Apart from that, customers affected by the incident should check whether payments planned for November 3rd and 4th, such as transfers, direct debits or standing orders, have actually been carried out.

If it is determined in this way that a standing order or a transfer has not been carried out for the specified period, this must be made again as a new individual booking. If a direct debit from a service provider, for example the electricity provider or the landlord, has not been carried out, the DKB asks you to inform them. This is because the latter may have to trigger the direct debit again, since the bank does not have the necessary information, such as the contact details of the relevant service provider, due to strict regulatory requirements for current accounts.

With over five million customers across Germany, Deutsche Kreditbank is one of the largest direct banks in Germany.
