After this legislative period: Wagenknecht no longer wants to run for leftists

The Bundestag member Sahra Wagenknecht will no longer run for her party Die Linke. She told the newspaper "Rheinpfalz": "I rule out running for the left again."

The former leader of the Left Party, Sahra Wagenknecht, will no longer stand for her party in the next federal election. "I rule out a renewed candidacy for the left," said the deputy of the "Rheinpfalz". After the end of the legislative period, she either wants to withdraw from politics and work as a publicist and author, "or something new will arise politically," she is quoted as saying.

Regarding speculation that she could found her own party, she told the newspaper: "It's being discussed in many places." According to her observation, it is a problem that many people in today's party spectrum no longer really feel represented by anyone.

Wagenknecht has been a member of the Bundestag since 2009, before that she was a member of the European Parliament. From 2010 to 2014 she was deputy party leader and from 2015 to 2019 together with Dietmar Bartsch parliamentary group leader.
