Football icon Franz Beckenbauer was impressed by FC Bayern's 6-1 win at the start of the Bundesliga season at Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening.
"I refuse title congratulations. But I haven't seen such a desire, such a performance for a long time," the 76-year-old is quoted as saying by the "Bild" newspaper. The successes with world footballer Robert Lewandowski, who migrated to FC Barcelona, are "the past, this team is the future".
Beckenbauer was a player for years, a coach for a while and then president of the German record champions for a long time. In the meantime, the former world and European champion has largely withdrawn from the public eye.
