FC Bayern is chasing behind: VfL Wolfsburg wins every league game for a year

The women of VfL Wolfsburg manage 21 Bundesliga victories in a row, with the mandatory victory at SV Meppen the German champions have not lost a point nationally for a year. FC Bayern can hardly keep up.

The VfL Wolfsburg footballers have clinched their tenth win in their tenth game in the Bundesliga. The German champions won 3-0 (2-0) in the last league game of the year against SV Meppen. The cup winners were undeterred by the victories of their rivals and maintained a five-point lead over Bayern Munich.

Tabea Waßmuth (17th minute/21st) gave the Wolves the lead against Meppen. Pauline Bremer (73rd) increased the penalty with a penalty. It was the 21st Bundesliga win in a row for the Wolfsburg team across the season. The double winner last dropped points exactly one year ago: On December 11, 2021, the German champions only drew 1-1 at Bayer Leverkusen.

Wolfsburg's pursuers had each done their job: Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Turbine Potsdam 3-0 on Friday, Bayern Munich beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 on Saturday. After the outstanding 3-1 win against FC Barcelona in front of a record crowd of 24,000 spectators, the Bayern women found it difficult for a long time against the sixth-placed team: Georgia Stanway (30th minute) and Sydney Lohmann (62nd) provided in front of 1950 spectators for the lackluster but ultimately unchallenged success of the Wolfsburg pursuers.

"I'm so proud of the girls. Even more proud than I was after the win on Wednesday," said Bayern coach Alexander Straus after the game. "We knew it wasn't going to be easy today and to be honest we didn't play a good game either. Mentally it was tough for us today. A lot of the players were tired but they did a fantastic job and won the game. That's all that counts." FC Bayern stays second in the table over the winter, but the runners-up are already clearly ahead of them with a five-point deficit due to the massive Wolfsburg series.
