No déjà vu like in the Bundesliga: Klopp refuses harsh judgment on Liverpool crisis

Seven years Liverpool and the crisis is here. As in Mainz and at BVB, there could not be an eighth year for Jürgen Klopp at the club, many think. The comparison of weaknesses in form is popular. Just not with the coach himself. He vehemently rejects parallels.

Coach Jürgen Klopp has rejected parallels to his former employers Borussia Dortmund and FSV Mainz in view of the form crisis in his Liverpool FC. The 55-year-old has been a Liverpool coach for seven years and has not had an eighth year at his former clubs. Quite a few are therefore talking about a lousy déjà vu for the coach.

"I don't lack energy and the situation here is completely different," Klopp clarified. In Mainz, a restart was necessary after promotion and relegation and the departure of numerous players. "I could have stayed, they wanted me to stay," he said. "I was full of energy, went straight to Dortmund and everything was fine."

After seven years with him, Borussia Dortmund had repeatedly suffered from the loss of top performers. "It was a really tough job," said Klopp. "Instead of developing a team, we take two steps back. And everyone asks you: Why aren't you as good as last year?"

That was exhausting and led to the decision to give up the office. But he didn't lack energy, assured Klopp. "I just said I'm going on vacation for a year because that was fashionable at the time. I think Pep (Guardiola, editor's note) and Thomas Tuchel did it too."

Liverpool FC have only won twice in their first seven league games this season. In the Champions League, there were at least two successes in three games after the Reds had conceded a violent 4-1 loss at SSC Napoli at the start. The upcoming away game takes place at the strong Arsenal FC, who can take over the lead from Manchester City with a win in the afternoon.
