Hesse: Swearing-in of more than 850 commissioner candidates in Hesse

Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hesse's Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) has sworn in around 850 police commissioner candidates. "This is a strong signal for the future of the Hessian police force," emphasized the minister on Sunday in Wiesbaden. "Becoming a police officer is more than a job, it's a calling. With this decision comes a great responsibility." Because of the corona pandemic, the swearing-in ceremony had to take place decentrally at the individual study sites for the past two years.

According to the Interior Minister, the more than 850 sworn persons belong to the recruitment year 2021. They stand as an example for the expansion of the Hessian police force to more than 16,000 positions. All those sworn in at the Police Day in Wiesbaden are between the ages of 18 and 35, and almost half of them are women. Around 20 percent of the candidates have a migration background, around a third come from other federal states, explained Beuth. Seven police commissioner candidates belonged to the sports promotion group.
