Blankenheim (dpa / lnw) - A drunk, 20-year-old driver fled after an accident and left his two injured passengers behind. The three young people had been driving on Saturday morning in Blankenheim (Euskirchen district) when the driver, according to the police, got off the road with the car and crashed into a tree. He tried in vain to drive the car out of a ditch. Then he disappeared.
Rescue workers took the slightly injured 17-year-old girl to the hospital, police said on Sunday. Officers picked up the driver a little later. He was slightly injured and drunk, according to police. He now faces criminal prosecution. The property damage is estimated to be in the thousands of euros.
