North Rhine-Westphalia: fire brigade saves man from burning apartment

Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - The fire brigade saved a man from a burning apartment in Mönchengladbach. From the 53-year-old's apartment on the ground floor of an apartment building, smoke rose into the building when the emergency services arrived on Friday, according to a statement from the fire department on Saturday. The rescuers forced their way into the apartment, put the man in an ambulance and put out the fire. The victim was taken to the University Hospital in Aachen, which has special treatment options for smoke gas poisoners. The fire brigade had previously brought seven people out of the building, all of whom were unharmed.
