Essen (dpa / lnw) - Strong thunderstorms and some storms will move over North Rhine-Westphalia on Wednesday. The day started out sunny, said the German Weather Service (DWD) in Essen. The first weak showers are possible around noon in the west. In the afternoon showers and thunderstorms increased. Storms with hail and gusts of wind could occur from the Ruhr area to Münsterland. The temperatures climb to 28 to 35 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms are expected to intensify overnight. The lows are between 19 and 16 degrees.

There will be a significant cooling off with clouds and fading showers on Thursday. According to the DWD, the temperatures reach a maximum of 23 to 26 degrees.
