Not just "police call": actor Fritz Roth is dead

In his roles, Fritz Roth mostly played somewhat grumpy and taciturn, but equally lovable characters. Above all, but not only as a respirator Wolfgang Neumann in "Polizeiruf 110" he is remembered. Now he succumbs to an illness at the age of just 67.

The actor Fritz Roth died at the age of 67. According to a family obituary, Roth died on August 8, 2022.

The obituary is captioned with a quote: "Acting has fallen to me." Underneath it says that Roth fell asleep "after a long and serious illness".

The actor, who was born in Laasphe in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1955, came to acting relatively late in the late 1980s. At first he appeared exclusively in the theater, including as part of an engagement with the Berliner Ensemble.

He came to film and television around the turn of the millennium. Last but not least, his role in the humorous pseudo-documentary "Muxmäuschenstill" attracted attention, in which he mimed the assistant Gerd of the main character Mux, portrayed by Jan Henrik Stahlberg. Roth was nominated for the German Film Prize in 2004 for the role.

Further engagements in film followed, including smaller engagements in international productions. Among other things, Roth was part of the cast of the strip "Summer in front of the balcony" (2005) by Andreas Dresen and the Hollywood films "Der Vorleser" (2008) and "Hänsel und Gretel: Hexenjäger" (2013).

Above all, however, Roth worked for television. He was seen in the "crime scene" several times. In the "Soko" series, too, he appeared in various episodes with investigative teams from different cities.

But he will probably be remembered for his involvement in the Brandenburg "Police Call 110" team. Since 2010 he has played the officer Wolfgang "Wolle" Neumann a total of 21 times in the crime series, most recently together with the inspectors Adam Raczek (Lucas Gregorowicz) and Vincent Ross (André Kaczmarczyk). The investigators at his side came and went - "Wolle" stayed.
