Ingolstadt (dpa / lby) - Two passers-by rescued a mother and her severely hypothermic infant from the Danube in Ingolstadt. The mother is now being investigated on suspicion of attempted homicide, the police said on Monday. A jogger discovered the 34-year-old woman helpless in the water on Monday afternoon. With the help of another man, the two passers-by managed to save the woman from the Danube.

During first aid, the rescuers discovered the baby, which was carried on its stomach under the jacket. The infant was taken to an intensive care unit for treatment. According to the police, the 34-year-old was in a mental state of emergency, but was otherwise unharmed. The Ingolstadt Criminal Police Inspectorate is now investigating the mother.
