Thuringia: 9-euro ticket: Thuringia wants to extend trains if necessary

Erfurt (dpa/th) - At the start of the 9-euro ticket in local public transport, the Thuringian Ministry of Transport has again announced the expansion of train capacities. "During the period of validity of the 9-euro ticket, the situation will be monitored and, depending on need and availability, the capacities will be increased with additional wagons," the ministry said on request. The focus of the capacity expansion is primarily on the working days. On the upcoming Pentecost days, however, there could be a sharp increase in passenger numbers and thus capacity bottlenecks.

The 9-euro ticket is sold for the months of June to August. The federal government bears the costs exclusively for fare losses by the transport provider. Thuringia should then receive around 33 million euros. The state wants to contribute up to 1.5 million euros from its own budget for the possible capacity expansions.
