Nestled in the table basement: EL winner Frankfurt can no longer win

A volley just before the end in the heart of the eagle: FC Köln equalizes late at Eintracht Frankfurt and the Hessians are stuck in the bottom of the table. The European Cup winners haven't got a threesome in the league yet, and newcomer Luca Pellegrini won't change that either.

False start completely: The Europa League winners from Eintracht Frankfurt are clearly behind expectations in the Bundesliga. Coach Oliver Glasner's team had to settle for a 1-1 (0-0) win against 1. FC Köln and is still waiting for their first win with just two points from three games.

Throughout the season, the Frankfurters have not won in eleven games in everyday league life. Daichi Kamada put the long harmless Hessen in the lead with a great free kick (71'), but Jan Thielmann (82') struck back late for Cologne. Steffen Baumgart's Rhinelanders remain undefeated, but have to improve in the tricky Euro showdown on Thursday in the second leg of the Conference League play-off at FC Fehervar (first leg 1-2).

Compared to the draw at Hertha BSC (1: 1), Glasner made five changes, the Eintracht coach also changed the system and started with Luca Pellegrini on the left in the unfamiliar back four. Baumgart also made four changes to his team, including attacker Steffen Tigges who made his debut in the FC jersey.

Glasner, who had been in Cologne for observation during the week, had clearly demanded the first win of the season before the game, so the Hessians started with momentum and an offensive drive. An intense game developed at the beginning, which, however, flattened out significantly the longer it lasted.

Dangerous actions near the goal remained rare: a harmless finish from Rafael Borre (6th) and a long-range shot from Pellegrini (30th) for Frankfurt, who had announced the loan of Junior Dina Ebimbe from Paris St. Germain before the start of the game. In addition, there was an attempt by Cologne's Sargis Adamyan (44th), otherwise both teams lacked brilliant ideas due to numerous interruptions.

The Champions League participant from Main reported with significantly more momentum after the change of sides. The Hessians tried a lot via the fast Randal Kolo Muani, Jesper Lindström and Borre, but often acted a bit unluckily. World Cup hero Mario Götze remained pale for a long time again.

The Cologne team, on the other hand, was lurking for moments of change, they came dangerously in front of Kevin Trapp’s goal through Jan Thielmann (57th). At the other end, Kamada flicked in a free kick after being substituted on from the inside left position, which was slightly deflected by FC captain Jonas Hector.
