The alert was given around 5:45 p.m., Thursday, June 9, to rescuers after a 51-year-old man fell while hiking while walking in the Notre-Dame ravine sector in Moustier-Sainte-Marie .
He was unable to be helped by any earthly assistance because he had a severe head injury. The 50-year old was saved by two mountain firefighters who winched him onto the helicopter of the gendarmerie's air detachment. He was taken to the Digne-les-Bains medical center.
