Bavaria: Alligator discovered in cling film at Munich Airport

Munich (dpa / lby) - Wrapped in cling film, a traveler at Munich Airport wanted to smuggle a living albino alligator to Singapore. During an inspection at the end of September, the animal with a length of one meter was discovered in a suitcase that was much too small, the Bavarian control authority for food safety and veterinary affairs reported on Wednesday.

The alligator was therefore completely wrapped in cling film and fixed. Only the animal's nostrils were free. There was an acute danger to life. Customs seized the alligator.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the traveler from the USA for violating the Species Protection and Animal Welfare Act. According to the information, up to 75,000 euros are paid for white alligators in Asia.

The animal came to the sanctuary for reptiles in Munich. His condition has already improved significantly, it said.
