Bavaria: Change of boss at IG Metall Bavaria: Horst Ott replaces Horn

Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian IG Metall boss Johann Horn is retiring - his successor will be the Amberg IG Metall representative Horst Ott. The transfer of office will take place on April 1st, the union announced on Tuesday.

Horn said: "Now is a good time to stop. A successful wage round in the metal and electrical industry is behind us." The district of Bavaria is well positioned. He will be 65 in a few weeks and is looking forward to "more time for the family and the many things that are also fun". The trained toolmaker has been a full-time IG Metall official since 1987, became head of IG Metall Ingolstadt in 2000 and in 2018 succeeded Jürgen Wechsler as IG Metall regional manager.

At the suggestion of the district commission, the board of directors of IG Metall in Frankfurt appointed Ott as the new Bavarian IG Metall boss. The 57-year-old machine fitter has been the first authorized representative of IG Metall Amberg and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the automotive supplier Grammer since 2012. Ott said: "I'm looking forward to the new task and I really want to help shape the future of IG Metall."
