Bavaria: First Leonhardi ride in Bad Tölz since Corona

Bad Tölz (dpa / lby) - For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the famous Leonhardiritt took place in Bad Tölz. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) also came to the horse pilgrimage in the Upper Bavarian district town on Monday. The ride in honor of Saint Leonhard von Limoges takes place in many communities in Old Bavaria around his name day on November 6th. The Catholics venerate Leonard of Limoges as the patron saint of farm animals, especially horses.

The Leonhardiritt in Bad Tölz is one of the largest and most beautiful horse pilgrimages. Numerous horse-drawn carriages roll through the streets and alleys of the spa town. The order of the cars will be drawn in advance to avoid disputes over the front seats. The ride begins in the morning with the ringing of all Bad Tölz church bells and ends in the afternoon with the final blessing.

According to the city, thousands of people come to the pilgrimage every year to experience the special atmosphere. The Bad Tölzer Leonhardiritt has been part of Bavaria’s intangible cultural heritage since 2016.
