Bavaria: Flood protection on the Danube in Regensburg expanded

Regensburg (dpa / lby) - The expansion of flood protection on the Danube in Bavaria continues. After around two and a half years of construction, the section at the west port in Regensburg was completed, the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment announced on Wednesday. This protects around 5,000 residents in this area from a hundred-year flood, said Environment Minister Thorsten Faithr (free voters) at the inauguration.

According to the ministry, walls, mobile elements and sheet piling were installed over a length of around one kilometer. Some of these would have had to be anchored up to eight meters deep. The total cost of protecting the city of Regensburg from flooding on the Danube is around ten million euros. According to the ministry, it is one of the largest projects of this type in Bavaria.
