Bavaria: Fraudsters stole 200,000 euros with a grandchild trick

Kaufbeuren (dpa/lby) - With the same scam, telephone scammers stole more than 200,000 euros from two senior citizens on the same day. As the police said on Tuesday, the two seniors received calls on Friday, according to which their daughters are said to have caused fatal car accidents and bail is due. The scammers demanded that money and valuables be taken to various handover locations in Kaufbeuren. What both cases have in common is that the fraudsters no longer picked up the valuables at home, but guided the victims to the handover locations.

The perpetrators kept one of the victims on the phone for around eight hours. They sent the 67-year-old from Kempten back and forth twice between the bank and the handover location. He gave the scammers several gold coins.

The second victim, a 79-year-old from Rottach-Egern, was deprived of cash, gold jewelry and coins. The woman alerted the police when she became suspicious afterwards.
