Bavaria: IHK sees northern German locations overtaking Bavaria

Augsburg (dpa / lby) - The Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is concerned about Bavaria's energy policy as a business location. Nuclear power will be switched off, the planned alternative gas will fail, wind power lines from north to south Germany are missing: "Now energy-intensive companies will no longer be at home in Bavaria," said the IHK chairman Andreas Kopton of the "Augsburger Allgemeine" (Saturday). "Companies like this go to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg or Schleswig-Holstein, i.e. to places where there is sufficient and reliable wind power."

The Bavarian success model is in danger. "The Bavaria of tomorrow, that is, Bavaria in 30 years, is called Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania," said Kopton. "There is enough green electricity there, space for new settlements, and those responsible are happy about new companies." In view of the current crisis, the head of the IHK called for the last three operating German nuclear power plants to be extended and for the Swabian nuclear power plant in Gundremmingen, which was shut down at the end of 2021, to be put back into operation.
