Bavaria: smugglers with five people flee at up to 220 km / h

Freilassing (dpa / lby) - A suspected smuggler with five people in the car in Upper Bavaria fled from the federal police at up to 220 kilometers per hour. Under the influence of THC, he raced from Freilassing (district of Berchtesgadener Land) over federal highway 20, the federal police said on Tuesday. The chase, in which several police patrols were involved, ended almost 50 kilometers further in a field near Burgkirchen an der Alz (district of Altötting).

The 48-year-old ignored all stop signals from the officials and then stepped on the accelerator. The federal police officers drove after the car. The 48-year-old drove, among other things, at 100 km/h through a town and at 220 km/h on the main road. A little later he lost control of the car and stopped in a field. Three minors were sitting in the back seat of the car, another was in the trunk and an 18-year-old was in the passenger seat. All are refugees.

The 18-year-old got out of the car and ran away, it was said. The police officers found the young man shortly afterwards. He was handed over to the Austrian authorities. The three minors between the ages of 12 and 16 were handed over to the youth welfare office. The 48-year-old driver was taken into custody by order of a judge. Among other things, he has to answer for smuggling foreigners under life-threatening conditions and endangering road traffic.
