Bavaria: snow and cold in the Free State: many slippery accidents

Munich (dpa / lby) - snow and cold are back in Bavaria - and will probably stay for a few more days. That's what the German Weather Service (DWD) expects. In the Alps, the DWD expects 5 to 10 centimeters of fresh snow by Monday due to the cold and damp air. It's not supposed to snow in the lowlands, but the snow that has fallen so far is supposed to stay put for the time being. It also remains smooth in the Free State.

Already at the weekend, snow and ice caused several slippery accidents. While many of these were not taken lightly, there were also accidents with serious injuries. With snow showers and a slippery road, a 22-year-old skidded his car in Lehrberg in central Franconia (Ansbach district). He collided head-on with a car in the accident on Saturday, the police said on Sunday. The driver, the 22-year-old passenger and the 19-year-old driver of the second car were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. According to the police, there is no danger to life.

There was another serious injury in an accident in Upper Franconia near Rehau (Hof district). Because he was driving too fast on Saturday, a 36-year-old skidded and overturned his car. He was also taken to the hospital, as the traffic police inspector Hof announced on Sunday. A 26-year-old also overturned her car in Upper Bavaria near Feldafing (Starnberg district). She and her passenger were unharmed in the accident on Sunday night, according to a police statement.

For the coming week, the weather service expects partially freezing wet. In the whole of Free State, the temperature at night is well below zero, said a spokesman on Sunday. It stays cold even during the day. With a few exceptions, the temperatures will not rise above five degrees.
