Bavaria: Stanley Cup winner Sturm comes to Augsburg

Augsburg (dpa / lby) - Stanley Cup winner Nico Sturm receives a reception in Augsburg. As the Augsburg Panthers announced on Tuesday, the 27-year-old will also present the coveted trophy on Saturday. Born in Augsburg, he initially met in camera at the Curt Frenzel Stadium for a brief chat with the club's junior teams and took pictures.

Around 2:30 p.m., the storm with the Stanley Cup should show up on the ice. At 4 p.m. the San Jose Sharks attacker was received by the city of Augsburg by Mayor Eva Weber (CSU). Sturm then enters himself in the city's golden book.

"This day will certainly be a very special one for me and my family. I'm from Augsburg and I can't wait to bring the Stanley Cup home," explained Sturm. "I'm particularly excited to see the sparkling eyes of the youngsters."

Sturm became champions in the North American professional league NHL with Colorado Avalanche at the end of June. He is only the fifth German who has succeeded. In Augsburg, Sturm now hopes that “as many ice hockey fans as possible” will find their way to the arena.
