Cycling. The Tarentaise Cycling Project: Five stages, 80 participants... What you need to know

The Tour de Tarentaise will be held from July 21-24, as per the calendar last year.

The tarine event, organized by "Cycling Organization YD", will be held in five stages. Thursday, July 21st, at the end the day will see the ascent to the Col de l'Arpettaz (from Ugine). These 14km climbs on narrow roads, where the slope oscillates between 8 to 9% (with passages as high as 10% occasionally), could lead to significant differences.

Friday will see a 38km stage (and 1155m elevation difference) with departure from and arrival at Ugine. The program will include several sequences of "bumps", including Col de Montessuit and Martod.

The riders will depart Moutiers on Saturday, July 23rd and descend to Albertville via the Tarentaise valley. After that climb the Col des Cyclotouristes. The 13-kilometer climb starts with a 12% gradient and then progresses to higher percentages. You can continue on the surface until Fort du Mont, where you will reach a mountain road. This third stage should cause some damage.

Two stages will be offered on the final day of the event, Sunday 24 July. The morning will offer 7km between Les Menuires et Col de Tougnette along the newly completed cycle path. The Tarentaise Cycling Project, which links Saint Jean de Belleville with Val Thorens, will be completed in the afternoon. It will include 30 km and 1200m elevation.

"It's a route designed for real climbers," stated Yves Duchene (creator and organizer). At the start, 80 people are expected. Last year, the Swiss Dimitri Bussard won the race while Marion Peuget took the win in the women's section.

There will be multiple categories rewarded, with women aged 15-16 and 17-18 and 19-39, and women aged 40 and older, and men aged 15-16 and 17-18 and 19-22 and 19-22 and 23-39 and 40-59 and 50-59 and 60 and over. A category leader's jersey will be awarded, as well as a general classification jersey. There will be a team classification for three riders.

Five stages are available from July 21-24. Motiers is available for accommodation. Register on eventicom.fr. Information at 06 72 72 14 39.
