Hesse: ADAC: Already 200 missions since the beginning of the bicycle aid

Darmstadt (dpa/lhe) - In the first three months of ADAC breakdown assistance for bicycles or pedelecs, the breakdown helpers counted 2,500 calls nationwide. In Hesse alone there were already 200. In 95 percent of all cases one could also help, said the spokesman for the ADAC Hessen-Thüringen, Cornelius Blanke, on Wednesday in Darmstadt. The main reason for the call for help is flat tires. That accounts for three quarters of all assignments. Problems with the chain, brakes or gears follow a long way behind.

The ADAC has been offering the service nationwide since June 1st. The breakdown helpers have been specially trained to work on the bicycles and now have the necessary equipment in their vehicles.

In eleven cities nationwide, the breakdown helpers come themselves with the pedelec, i.e. bicycles with a supporting electric motor. They carry everything they need to repair a car or bicycle in a trailer weighing 78 kilograms. According to the ADAC, there are cycling breakdown helpers in Darmstadt, Saarbrücken, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Münster, Freiburg, Dresden, Bonn, Munich and Nuremberg.
