Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Frankfurt's Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD) has announced his resignation from office. He will no longer be mayor from Friday, Feldmann said on Sunday with a view to the result of a referendum on his deselection. The quorum for this has been reached. Next Friday (November 11) the municipal election committee will determine the official final result.
It was not the result that he wanted, said Feldmann. He thanked his supporters and referred to the successes of his policy, including in the fight for affordable rents and free daycare centers. We need to think further in this direction. "The goal of a social city" has not yet been achieved, said Feldmann. As a politically minded person and a simple Frankfurt citizen, he will continue to participate in the debate and get involved.
