Hesse: Hesse relaxes recruitment criteria for judges

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - In view of the high need for staff in the courts and public prosecutors' offices, Hesse has relaxed the recruitment criteria for judges and public prosecutors somewhat. In the future, a total of 15 points in both state exams will be sufficient for an application, previously there were 16 points, as Justice Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) announced in Wiesbaden on Wednesday. This was decided by the judge selection committee at his suggestion.

According to this, 7.5 points will be required for applicants in the second state examination in the future - after 8 points previously. In special circumstances, for example previous professional experience, 7 points in the second state examination may exceptionally suffice.

"In view of the high personnel requirements, we can now fall back on a larger field of applicants," explained Poseck. Due to the additional positions to be expected in the 2023/2024 double budget, even more junior staff will soon be needed.

The Judicial Election Committee is a constitutional body. He must approve the appointment of judges, prosecutors and the appointment of judges for life. The body consists of members of the state parliament, representatives of the courts and a representative of the legal profession.
