Offenbach (dpa/lhe) - There were fires in several places in Offenbach on Wednesday night. A total of three garbage cans and two cars were set on fire, a police spokesman said. The cars and the associated garage near downtown Offenbach burned down completely. Because the fire threatened to spread to an adjacent building, at least 15 people had to be evacuated from the seven-story apartment building. Four people suffered mild smoke inhalation. The fire was eventually prevented from spreading. Overall damage was estimated at 200,000 euros.
According to the spokesman, the fire from a garbage can fire in the Bürgel district has spread to the facade of an apartment building. As a result, the power supply went out in the meantime. Nobody got hurt. Two other burning garbage cans - one in Bürgel, one near the city center - could be extinguished without causing any damage
Even if there was initially no evidence of this, the spokesman suspected early Wednesday morning that there might be a connection between the fires.
