Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: "Blue Flag" for 34 bathing areas and five marinas

Barth (dpa / mv) - Economics and Tourism Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) has awarded 34 bathing areas and five marinas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the "Blue Flag" seal of approval. The "Blue Flag" stands for the combination of quality, tourism and nature, said Meyer on Friday in Barth. "Clean water and safe beaches are basic requirements for bathing and water tourism in our country."

Across Germany, 45 bathing spots have been awarded. This means that three quarters of all "Blue Flags" hang in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania alone. This high number is good news for guests who want to relax in MV, said Meyer. The flag for bathing areas was available this year for 28 coastal waters and 6 inland waters.

The "Blue Flag" criteria included excellent bathing water quality based on the EU's bathing water directive and high standards in environmental management to preserve nature and the environment in the area and on the beach. In addition to cleaning the harbor and waste disposal, safety aspects are also decisive features in marinas.
