Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Ascension Day and Pentecost: Confident in the tourism industry

Rostock (dpa/mv) - The tourism industry is looking forward to the coming public holidays with confidence. According to an industry survey of more than 350 accommodation companies, an average occupancy rate of between 80 and 90 percent can be expected for Ascension Day or Pentecost, the MV tourism association announced on Monday in Rostock. More than 300,000 overnight guests can be expected on each of the two long weekends. "The Ascension weekend seems to be in demand a little more than Pentecost at the moment," said association manager Tobias Woitendorf.

However, despite the high capacity utilization, the pre-corona level has not yet been reached. This also applies to the months of July and August, when companies expect capacity utilization of almost 90 percent. Around 40 percent of those surveyed assumed that demand and capacity utilization would fall compared to 2019, said Woitendorf.

At the same time, according to the information, the number of companies that are dependent on economic aid in the wake of the corona pandemic is falling. "Only around 10 percent of accommodation providers and 22 percent of leisure providers currently still need government support," said Woitendorf. In the same period of the previous year, it was still 50 percent of accommodation providers and 66 percent of leisure providers. Every second company now assesses the economic situation as very secure or secure.
