Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: BUND MV for speed limit: Chairman Baier confirmed in office

Güstrow (dpa/mv) - The environmental organization BUND Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has called for a speed limit on motorways in view of the energy crisis. In addition, the 25 BUND groups demanded that the maximum speed on country roads be reduced, according to a statement at the state general meeting on Saturday in Güstrow. They were convinced that a speed limit could save millions of liters of petrol and climate-damaging exhaust gases each year.

According to the information, the BUND wants to devote more attention to the protection of the moors in the coming year. The climate-damaging management of moors must be ended. In addition, at least 8,000 hectares of moors in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania would have to be rewetted every year.

According to the information, state chair Bettina Baier from Stralsund was confirmed in office. Also elected to the board were Elisabeth Kirschke, a teacher from Stavenhagen, Alexander Schmidt, a lawyer from Ihlenfeld near Neubrandenburg, Arndt Müller, a biologist from Schwerin and Dorothee Ilgner, an office clerk from Spornitz near Parchim.
