Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: EUR 150,000 additionally for children and youth camps

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - organizers of children's and youth leisure time in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania receive an additional 150,000 euros. “The funds are intended for children and youth travel and leisure activities and come from the federal action program “Catching up after Corona for children and young people,” said Social Affairs Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) on Friday. The money is available for 2023 up to and including the summer holidays.

According to Drese, the state has already provided an additional 570,000 euros from the federal program for children and youth camps in 2021 and 2022. In the two years around 7000 children and young people would have benefited from it.

The Parity Welfare Association welcomed the extra funding. At the same time, the state chairman Friedrich Wilhelm Bluschke called for more attention to be paid to child and youth work as a whole. "There is a lack of awareness of this industry in politics and the public," he said. "We must improve and secure the living conditions of all young people through needs-based offers and services." Relationship work can only be done by people. "But they are missing in many places."
