Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: knife attack due to debt: appeal against the verdict

Stralsund (dpa / mv) - A car dealer sentenced to ten years in prison by the Stralsund district court does not want to accept his sentence. As a spokeswoman for the regional court announced on Tuesday, the 33-year-old has appealed against the judgment from the end of October. The Federal Court of Justice must therefore review the conviction.

The regional court found the 33-year-old from Greifswald guilty of attempted murder, attempted robbery and assault. He acted out of greed and malice. The defense saw no intent to murder and pleaded for a much lighter sentence for attempted robbery.

The 33-year-old admitted that he drove to a previous customer in an apartment building in Stralsund on April 6th. The car dealer, who needed money because of debts of around 100,000 euros, knew from sales talks that the victim had a large sum of cash at home. The perpetrator was disguised with a carnival mask. After the victim answered the doorbell, the perpetrator stabbed him about 20 times.

The 58-year-old fought back and screamed so loudly that neighbors came to help. The masked perpetrator fled and was later caught in Greifswald. The victim was seriously injured in the attack.

The 33-year-old said in court that he could not remember any details. The court did not follow this after hearing an expert.
