Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: man stabbed and left helpless: process

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - A trial against a man from Demmin, who is said to have stabbed an acquaintance and left him helpless, begins at the Neubrandenburg district court on Tuesday (10:00 a.m.). The accused are accused of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm. The incident is said to have happened at night at the end of July on the footpath to a gas station in Demmin, where the men probably wanted to get alcohol.

According to the public prosecutor, the accused is said to have suddenly pulled the acquaintance to the ground and stabbed him several times with a knife with a ten-centimetre-long blade. The 47-year-old suffered multiple life-threatening injuries to his upper body. He was found several hours later thanks to a tip from witnesses, underwent emergency surgery in a clinic and survived.

The alleged perpetrator was arrested two days after the incident in Demmin and was taken into custody. The public prosecutor's office has not yet provided any information on a possible motive. Four days of hearings are planned for the trial, and a verdict is expected at the end of January.
