North Rhine-Westphalia: cultural workers want their own strong ministry in NRW

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The NRW culture council has appealed to the CDU and the Greens to have an independent culture ministry in a future coalition. The layout of the previous Ministry of Culture and Science is "a tried and tested model in other federal states," emphasized the chairman and former Federal Minister of the Interior, Gerhart Baum (FDP), in a statement on Monday. On behalf of its more than 80 member associations from all cultural sectors, the cultural council is therefore in favor of preserving the tried and tested: "Culture needs a strong ministry."

The CDU and the Greens have been negotiating the first black-green coalition in NRW since the end of May. They are now on the home straight and - subject to the approval of their parties to the coalition agreement - have already considered the election of the prime minister for June 28th. Black and yellow was voted out in the state elections on May 15.
