North Rhine-Westphalia: Driver seriously injured in knife attack in Bonn

Bonn (dpa / lnw) - A 54-year-old driver is said to have tried to stab a woman on a motorway exit in Bonn. The man had previously overtaken and braked the 51-year-old with his car, police and prosecutors said on Monday.

According to the investigation, he then got out and stepped on the 51-year-old's car. After a brief argument, he seriously but not fatally injured the woman with a knife before he fled. The events took place on Sunday on the exit of Autobahn 565 Bonn-Lengsdorf.

The woman is probably not a random victim: the suspect is part of her extended family. Witnesses alerted the police. The 51-year-old was treated by an emergency doctor at the scene and then taken to a hospital.

When the search was initiated immediately, the 54-year-old's car was stopped in neighboring Sankt Augustin and the suspect arrested. A homicide commission took up the investigation. The 54-year-old was remanded in custody by a judge for attempted manslaughter. He was silent on the allegations.
