North Rhine-Westphalia: Drunk paints zebra crossings on the street

Essen (dpa / lnw) - A 48-year-old man wanted to paint a zebra crossing on a street in Essen - allegedly to protect children from danger. According to the police, however, he initially achieved the opposite: Irritated drivers had to brake sharply when the first pedestrians used the uncompleted zebra crossing and ran across the street. But there was no accident.

The drunk painter said the spot was not safe for children, so they needed a crosswalk. The fire brigade was called out to remove the fresh paint that the car tires had spread on the street in the meantime, and street cleaning had to be called in later. The 48-year-old is now facing a procedure for dangerous interference in road traffic. In addition, it will be checked whether he has to bear the cleaning costs, it said. The incident happened on Friday.
