North Rhine-Westphalia: Germany's highest railway bridge is 125 years old

It is considered Germany's answer to the Eiffel Tower: the Müngsten Bridge in the Bergisches Land has been the highest railway bridge in Germany for 125 years. This will be celebrated next weekend.

Solingen (dpa / lnw) - 107 meters high, 465 meters long and now 125 years old: Germany's highest railway bridge is an amazingly filigree steel colossus. Thousands are expected to attend the big bridge anniversary next weekend. For the "birthday" there is a big party at the feet of the steel giant, with a concert by the Bergische Symphoniker on Saturday (27 August) and a family day on Sunday (28 August). A historic steam train crosses the bridge several times on both days. The festival is organized by the Friends of the World Heritage Müngsten Bridge.

In view of the acute shortage of parking spaces, the city of Solingen warns against arriving by car and advises using the 9-euro ticket to travel to the bridge's birthday.
