North Rhine-Westphalia: Reul welcomes NRW's first police trainees

Wuppertal (dpa / lnw) - Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) welcomed the first police trainees in North Rhine-Westphalia on an excursion to the Wuppertal police force. Since August 1st, 340 high school students have been preparing for a "police-specific vocational diploma" at vocational schools, with which they can then become police detective candidates. Previously, anyone who wanted to become a police officer in NRW needed to have a high school diploma.

According to Reul, there had been 2,500 applications for the 340 places - the interest was "huge". In Wuppertal, around 60 students from the Gelsenkirchen and Recklinghausen vocational colleges saw, among other things, demonstrations by the use of hundreds and the use of a water cannon.
