Psycho thriller with Steve Carell: "The Patient" travels into human abysses

Many series these days want to be sophisticated, intricate and entertaining. A balancing act that rarely succeeds. But in the case of "The Patient" it only needs two chairs, a room and actors who know their craft.

Psychotherapist Alan Strauss (Steve Carell) recently lost his wife. To endure the grief, he devotes himself fully to his work. When a new patient (played frighteningly well by Domhnall Gleeson) walks into Alan's office, the widower embarks on a human journey.

"The Patient" - streaming at Disney - probably won't be to everyone's taste. The ten-part US mini-series hardly does anything wrong! Setting, mood, camera and the outstanding performances of the two main actors make "The Patient" a haunting trip to the edge of the soul.
