Saxony-Anhalt: Festival of Light and Sound Art in the center of Stendal

Stendal (dpa/sa) - The Hanseatic city of Stendal in the Altmark wants to set a positive "point of light" in the currently challenging times. After the opening of the Stendaler Lichttage on Thursday, artists of sound and light art will stage the city center until Saturday. According to the city administration, the initiator is the H. u. H. Kaschade Foundation. It was said that Hans-Jürgen Kaschade brought the idea of the Lichttage with him from Sweden. They celebrated their premiere in Stendal in 2015, and since then work has been ongoing on the "expansion of cultural offerings in public space".

A varied program with music, video art, animations and sound and light installations awaits visitors along the market square, Winckelmannplatz and St. Marien Church. Guests are also invited to take part, for example in the "Paint a picture with light" campaign organized by the Altmark photo combine on Winckelmannplatz.

The foundation of Hans-Jürgen and Hermine Kaschade was established in 1995. The couple comes from Lower Saxony. Kaschade was seconded as a civil servant in 1990 to set up the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences and then the Stendal site as the founding rector. Since the founding of the foundation, it has pursued the promotion of students, the dissemination of German-language literature at home and abroad, and the support of cultural projects in the region.
