Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, the municipalities should be allowed to charge higher parking fees in the future. The black-red-yellow coalition spoke out in favor of increasing the previous upper limit on Thursday. By state ordinance, parking fees have been capped at 50 cents per half hour since the beginning of the 1990s. The amount could now be doubled to one euro after the decision with an amendment to the regulation.
With the decision, the coalition wants to give cities and municipalities the opportunity to better manage traffic and inner-city design. The Greens had spoken out in favor of abolishing the cap.
